Dr. Mindbender

A one time successful ortodontist, the man now known as Dr. Mindbender began experimenting with brainwave manipulation as a way to ease pain.  As he learned more about brain activity he discovered he could reprogram anyone's brain with small electric pulses in strategic places.  This led to what became known as the Brainwave Scanner.  The original primitive design read brain activity through pulses displayed on a monitor and the Doctor could make small changes.  As he experimented further he began using the machine to ease any of the smallest pains he had from a headache to a pulled muscle, all pain could be erased in the mind.  And then he began changing his memories.

At first it was just forgetting about a failure as a child or a heartbreak from his teenage years.  And then after deleting the memories he realized he had a place in his brain where information could be stored.  As he used the machine more and more he became addicted to replacing wasteful memories with useful information.  Truly one of the smartest men in the world, he was still not happy.  He replaced memories of his childhood with encyclopedic knowledge of the sciences.  Memories of his family were replaced with mathmatical formulas.  As he learned more he came up with new ideas and as his experiments grew more dangerous until the authorities became interested and tried to shut him down.  He quickly replaced more of his memories with escape plans and contacted Cobra hoping for protection. 

When he arrived at Cobra headquarters he could not remember his name so Dr. Venom, familiar with his work, began calling him Dr. Mindbender, a name that has stuck until this day.  He was given full freedom at Cobra and unlimited resources.  His redesigned Brainwave Scanner displayed thoughts as images on a television monitor so no thoughts could be kept secret.  Content in his position with Cobra he enjoyed the freedom he had and slowly added more knowledge with his Brainwave Scanner.  He learned about cloning and approached Cobra Commander with a plan for a super soldier made from the DNA of history's greatest warriors.  He was granted full control of the Serpentor project and was praised as a genius when Serpentor arose.  The following Civil War between Cobra Commander and Serpentor nearly destroyed Cobra but fortunatly for Mindbender, Cobra Commander accepted him back after the defeat of Serpentor, although he was kept on a shorter leash.  

Now without as much freedom, much of Mindbender's work was done in secret.  Hoping to impress Cobra Commander, he began working on another super soldier experiment.  After 10 years of research and brain manipulation he started the Venomous Maximus project.  When the deformed monster took his first breath he destroyed the Cobra labs and began killing any troopers that got in his way.  Mindbender had placed memories in his monster that he was his father and if not for Mindbender then Venomous Maximus may have never stopped his carnage. 

When Cobra Commander learned what had happened he ordered Venomous Maximus executed by firing squad while Mindbender watched.  After watching Venomous Maximus' body fall back Mindbender was led in front of the firing squad and he couldn't beleive his eyes as a perfect clone of himself made his  way to Cobra Commander's side.  The Commander explained that Dr. Venom had obtained the Doctor's DNA on his arrival to Cobra and they had now cloned him and used the Brainwave Scanner to program the clone how they saw fit.  As the firing squad took aim, Mindbender closed his eyes and began to cry as he realized his work would live on and he wouldn't.  As he cried and waited for the sound of guns a large beastly arm wrapped around him.

Venomous Maximus took Mindbender to the underground tunnels that he knew about thanks to Mindbender's programming.  The tunnels took him to a small rock fromation off the coast of Cobra Island where an escape raft took them to a small island that formed thirty miles from Cobra Island when it was formed.  Here on a small 100 acre island Mindbender setup his refuge with Venomous Maximus protecting him.  Cobra soon gave up the search for him and Mindbender had started going crazy without his Brainwave Scanner to keep him sane.   After he had been without the Scanner for a couple months his sanity returned and he decided to strike back against Cobra but first he needed an army.

With Venomous Maximus' help they secretly went back to Cobra Island through the tunnels and took the supplies they would need.  Soon Mindbender had a lab setup  on his island and sent Maximus to bring him subjects to experiment on.  Venomous Maximus returned with prisoners he kidnapped.  Perfect for experimenting on Mindbender used various methods on the men with very different results.  All of them were programmed to live in the wild on island and they all refer to Mindbender as father.  Now this group of monsters are fiercely loyal to Mindbender and await the command to rise up. 

Mindbender has even gone as far as injecting himself with one of his formulas.  The damage to his body is obvious from the enlarged arm, webbed fingers, protrusions from his hand, and discoloration to his skin.  The helmet one of his subject made for him finishes the look and Mindbender looks like one of his monsters and he is as ready to attack Cobra as they are.
