Freight
Omar Diesel
POB: Aiken, South Carolina
Omar Diesel, "The Freight Train" had a promising career in football. A star linebacker who had NFL scouts watching him in high school, he was set to be one of the biggest stars in the game. But coming from a poor background his mother insisted that he take the full scholarship to college and get his education first and foremost. It was in college that William "The Refrigerator" Perry came to see him play and asked to meet him after the game. The Fridge left Omar with a game jersey of his and told him how much of a fan he was.
But NFL scouts weren't the only ones trying to sign Omar up for a career. Armed Forces recruiters were always looking to sign new recruits as well and a star football player would make just as a good of a soldier as anyone else. Omar listened to all of their speeches and weighed his options. In the end he chose to honor his late father, an army captain, by signing his enlistment papers with the United States Army. The move came as a complete surprise to everyone and the hype surrounding him faded as he finished college with a degree in architectual engineering and still as a star on the football field but destined to be a soldier.
Military life was a bit harder than Omar expected. Football had not prepared him for the hardships in basic training at all. Even though he was physically fit, it took an extreme amount of desire to make it through training. After training he started to get bored with the military and started to second guess his choice. But one day during a pick up game of football at the base Captain Grid-Iron saw Omar playing. He saw the fire in his eyes and he could not believe the hits the young man was making. He approached Omar after the game and offered him a spot on another team.
After his transfer papers were processed Omar stepped onto a new field, this time facing a man in a green mask calling himself Beachhead. After passing the greenshirt program Omar was told to choose a new codename to be his name in battle. Naturally he chose Freight Train which was shortened to Freight. Due to his education background and his seeming desire to destroy things by running through them, demolitions were his new primary assignment. When he was told that the G.I. Joe team ddin't have uniforms and they could dress as they saw fit, Freight started wearing his prize posession, his Fridge jersey.
