Gnawgahyde has returned with a vengeance. After forming a friendship with the ex-wrestler and new Dreadnok Crusher, Gnawgahyde took him on an Australian hunting excursion. On this trip Crusher attacked Gnawgahyde and took his clothes from him and left him for dead in the outback. As a final insult Crusher brutally slaughtered Gnawgahyde's pet boar right in front of him. Failing to realize how resourceful a man like Gnawgahyde is, Crusher made a huge mistake not killing him.

Gnawgahyde struggled and fought his way across the outback angry and naked. Now that he has returned to civilization he is a bit more animalistic. After observing the Dreadnoks he saw Crusher wearing his vest and hat and parading around as his replacement going so far as to have his own pet boar. This served only to fuel his hatred and he vowed revenge. One night as the 'noks sat around bragging on their conquests Gnawgahyde bust through the door and eyed Crusher. The look in his eyes told the other 'noks to back off. Gnawgahyde grabbed Crusher by the throat and began slamming him into the wall. He finally slammed hard enough to break through the wall and they both fell into the swamp. Crusher proved no match for the angered Aussie and the rabid poacher killed Crusher with his bare hands. As he turned around to face his Dreadnoks he saw the smiling faces of Buzzer, Ripper, Torch and Monkeywrench. He also saw the angered look on Zarana's face and instantly knew she was behind Crusher's failed attempt on his life. He reached for her as Road Pig stepped in to protect her. Buzzer and his group grabbed Gnawgahyde and rushed off into the swamps as the first official shot of the Dreadnok Civil War was fired that night.
